If you’re looking for the best fruit juices, jams or marmalade, you’ve come to the right place.
A prominent horticultural district in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, Parwanoo is located 30 km north of Chandigarh and is known for its beautiful orchards. With apples and peaches grown in plenty, the fields of this small town seem dressed up in peach and red hues. The products made from the fruits contribute greatly to the economy of the town.
There are two ways to ge the perfect view of the town and the countryside and if trekking up the Shivalik hills does not interest you, the cable car run by Timber Trail resort will take you through the same picturesque views. However, while in Parwanoo make sure you visit the army town of Dagshai, one of the oldest British cantonments in the country.
A gateway to places in Himachal Pradesh like Renuka Lake (the largest lake in the state), Pinjore, Kasauli and Paonta Sahib, the town should not be treated as merely a stopover but definitely deserves a visit of its own.
Even though the town is known for its fruits, the meat pickles available at Dhalli, on the northern outskirts of Parwanoo, are definitely worth a try.
While the cold winters can be quite unbearable in Parwanoo, the summers are pleasant and perfect for a quick getaway.
BEST PLACES TO STAY IN PARWANOO
While there are several places to stay in Parwanoo, the Timber Trail resort, a few miles to the north of the town on the Shimla highway, which runs the cable car and the Hotel Royal Regency on the Kasauli road that has reasonable rates are recommended.
