Ajay Devgn, born Vishal Devgan, is an Indian actor, director and producer who works predominantly in the Hindi film and television industries. He made his acting debut in 1991 in Bollywood movie Phool Aur Kaante which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. From then on he has featured in over 100 films and has won a number of awards for his performance in them.
In 1992, Ajay starred in Jigar alongside actress Karisma Kapoor, and in 1993, he featured in eight movies, namely, Divya Shakti, Platform, Sangraam, Shaktiman, Dil Hai Betaab, Ek Hi Raasta, Bedardi, and Dhanwan. In 1994 he starred in 4 movies, Dilwale, Kanoon, Vijaypath, Suhaag, and was assistant director in Madam X, which had starred actors Rekha, Mohsin Khan, Shakti Kapoor and Raza Murad.
1995 TO 2001:
By 2019, Ajay had starred in 114 and had seven movies that were slated for release in 2020. In 1995, he starred in four movies, namely, Naajayaz, which earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Actor nomination, followed by Hulchul, Gundaraj, and Haqeeqat. In 1996 he starred in Jung, Diljale, and Jaan, which was followed by Ishq and Itihaas in 1997, and the next year in Major Saab, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, a cameo appearance in Sar Utha Ke Jiyo, and in Zakhm, which earned him a National Film Award for Best Actor, as well as a Filmfare Award for Best Actor nomination.
In 1999, Ajay starred in 7 movies and they were Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (Nominated For Filmfare Award for Best Actor), Hindustan Ki Kasam, Gair, Thakshak, Kachche Dhaage, and Dil Kya Kare. In 2000, he starred in Deewane, and in Raju Chacha for which he was also the producer, and the following year in Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke, Lajja, for which he was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor, and in Tera Mera Saath Rahen.
2002 TO 2004:
Ajay almost always featured in more than two movies in a year, and in 2002 he starred in Company, which earned him a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor and a Filmfare Award for Best Actor nomination. He followed it with Hum Kisise Kum Nahin, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, for which he won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor and the National Film Award for Best Actor, and in Deewangee for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role.
In 2003, Ajay starred in 7 movies, Bhoot, Qayamat: City Under Threat, Chori Chori, Gangaajal, Parwana, Zameen, and LOC: Kargil. The following year he starred in Khakee for which he earned a Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role nomination and followed it with Masti, Yuva, Raincoat, and an extended cameo appearance in Taarzan: The Wonder Car.
2005 TO 2007:
Ajay featured in 8 movies in the year 2005, and they are Insan, Blackmail, Zameer: The Fire Within, Tango Charlie, Kaal (Nominated—Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role), Main Aisa Hi Hoon, Apaharan, and Shikhar. In 2006, he featured in Bhojpuri film Dharti Kahe Pukar Ke, followed by Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, The Awakening (Actor/Producer/Editor), and Omkara. In 2007, in Cash and Aag.
2008 TO 2010:
Ajay continued to be a hot favourite and featured in Halla Bol (2008), Sunday (2008), U Me Aur Hum (2008-Actor/Director/Writer/Producer), Haal-e-Dil (2008-Special Appearance), Mehbooba (2008), and Golmaal Returns (2008). In 2009 he featured in All the Best: Fun Begins (Actor/Producer), and in London Dreams. In 2010 in Teen Patti (Cameo), Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?, Raajneeti, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (Nominated—Filmfare Award for Best Actor), Aakrosh, Golmaal 3, and Toonpur Ka Super Hero.
2011 TO 2014:
In 2011, Ajay featured in Yamla Pagla Deewana, Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, Ready (Cameo), Singham (Nominated—Filmfare Award for Best Actor), and Rascals. In 2012 in Tezz, Bol Bachchan (Actor/Producer), Son of Sardaar (Actor/Producer), and Makkhi/Eega. In 2013, in Himmatwala, Satyagraha, and Mahabharat (Voice/Animated Film), followed by Singham Returns (Actor/Producer), and Action Jackson in 2014.
2015 TO 2019:
In 2015 he made a special appearance in the song Birju from the movie Hey Bro, and then in Drishyam. He made a cameo appearance in Fitoor (2016) and starred in Shivaay while also directing, writing and producing it. In 2017, he featured in Guest iin London (Special Appearance), Baadshaho, Poster Boys (Cameo), and Golmaal Again. In 2018 he made a cameo appearance in Aapla Manus, and Simmba, and starred in Raid. In 2019 he featured in Total Dhamaal (Actor/Producer), and in De De Pyaar De.
In 2020 Ajay will make a cameo appearance in Sooryavanshi and RRR, star in Tanhaji-The Unsung, Bhuj: The Pride of India, and Maidaan.
PERSONAL LIFE:
Ajay Devgn was born on April 2, 1969 in New Delhi to Veeru and Veena Devgan and he has a brother and a sister. He graduated from the Silver Beach High School in Juhu and then studied at Mithibai College. He is married to actress Kajol Mukherjee and has two children with her. He owns a production company called Ajay Devgn FFilms and was the first Bollywood personality to own a private jet for transport to shooting locations, to promotions and for personal trips.
