Divya Spandana is an Indian actress, who works predominantly in the south Indian film industry, and a politician who belongs to the Indian National Congress (INC). Before politics, She had starred in a number of Tamil and Kannada movies. Known professionally as Ramya, she made her acting debut in 2003 in the Kannada movies Abhi and Excuse Me.
Divya, who was a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Mandya, Karnataka, had also made her Telugu debut in 2003 with the movie Abhimanyu. The many roles she has played, have also won her a number of awards.
2004 TO 2006:
In 2004, Divya starred in four movies, namely, Kuththu (Tamil), Ranga SSLC (Kannada), Kanti (Kannada), and Giri (Tamil). She followed them with Kannada movies Aadi, Aakash, Gowramma, and Amrithadhare in 2005. The next year, 2006, she starred in Kannada movies Sevanthi Sevanthi, Julie, Dattha, Jothe Jotheyali, and Tananam Tananam. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Kannada for her role in the movie Tananam Tananam.
2007 TO 2010:
Divya starred in four films in 2007, namely, Kannada movies Arasu, Prarambha (short film), and Meera Madhava Raghava, and Tamil movie Polladhavan. In 2008 she featured in six movies, namely, Mussanjemaatu (Kannada), Thoondil (Tamil), Meravanige (Guest Appearance-Kannada), Bombaat (Kannada), Anthu Inthu Preethi Banthu (Kannada), and Vaaranam Aayiram (Tamil). In 2010, in Kannada movies Just Maath Maathalli, Jothegara, and Kiccha Huccha.
2011 TO 2012:
In 2011, Divya starred in Singam Puli (Tamil), and Kannada movies Sanju Weds Geetha, Dandam Dashagunam, and Johny Mera Naam Preethi Mera Kaam. She won the SIIMA Award for Best Actress, the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress, the Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Kannada, and many others for her role in the movie Sanju Weds Geetha. In 2012, she starred in Kannada movies Sidlingu, Lucky, Katari Veera Surasundarangi, and made a special appearance in Crazy Loka, which was followed by Aryan (2014), Nagarahavu (2016), and Dil Ka Raja.
POLITICS:
Divya joined politics in 2012 under the Indian Youth Congress and then became Member of Parliament from Mandya constituency in Karnataka after winning the by-election in 2013. In May 2017 she was entrusted with the task of reviving Congress' social media wing and was made national head of INC's digital team at the national level. On October 3, 2018, it was rumoured that she had stepped down from her post.
PERSONAL LIFE:
Divya Spandana was born on November 29, 1982 in Bangalore, Karnataka to Ranjitha Ramya, who is also a politician. She did her schooling at St. Hilda's in Ooty and then at Sacred Heart School (Church Park), Chennai and Tamil Nadu.
