The University of Delhi, the premier university of India, was established in the year 1922. It is known for its high standards in teaching as well as research. Eminent scholars are associated with Delhi University as its faculty. The President of India is the Visitor of Delhi University, the Vice President is the Chancellor and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India is the Pro-Chancellor. The University of Delhi has 16 faculties, 86 academic departments, 77 colleges and 5 other recognised institutes which are spread in all over the city. At present 132435 regular students and 261169 students in non-formal education programme are enrolled in the university. Various courses are offered by the University of Delhi, which include Undergraduate courses, post graduate courses, M. Phil and other courses. Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board (NCWEB) was established in the year 1943 under Delhi University Act. Under NCWEB, women students took exams in the university with special coaching but without attending regular classes. The functioning of the Board began in September 1944 with 3 students. Presently, more than 17,000 students are enrolled. Women residing in Delhi can enrol as students of NCWEB. There is a unique system established under NCWEB with lectures.
