Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is an English actress, model and activist who works predominantly in the English film industry. She is very well known for playing Hermione Granger, which was her first professional acting role, in the Harry Potter film series. She was nominated and also won a number of awards for her role in the series.
Apart from movies, Emma also featured in British television sitcom The Vicar of Dibley in 2015. She also featured in the 2007 television adaptation of the novel Ballet Shoes and was the voice of Princess Pea in the computer-animated adventure fantasy family film The Tale of Despereaux in 2008.
2001 TO 2011:
From 2001, Emma starred in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011), and then in My Week with Marilyn.
2012 TO 2019:
After gaining worldwide recognition as well as success from the Harry Potter film series, Emma went on to star in the 2012 movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower. She followed it with The Bling Ring, and This Is the End - in the year 2013. After that she starred in Noah (2014), Colonia (2015), Regression (2015), Beauty and the Beast (2017), and The Circle (2017). She will also be seen in 2019 in American movie Little Women, which is the eighth film adaptation of the 1868 novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott.
WOMEN'S RIGHTS WORK:
Emma is a strong supporter of women's rights and has been promoting education for girls, doing so while visiting Bangladesh and Zambia. She was appointed as a UN Women Goodwill ambassador in July 2014, and delivered a speech at the UN Headquarters in New York City during the launch of the UN Women campaign HeForShe. In January 2016, Emma started a feminist Goodreads book club: Our Shared Shelf, with the goal being to share feminist ideas and encourage discussion on the topic.
In July 2019, Emma helped to launch a legal advice line for people who have suffered sexual harassment at work. Legal advice is provided by Rights of Women, a charity that works to help women through the law.
PERSONAL LIFE:
Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born on April 15, 1990 in Paris, France to English lawyers Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson. Following her parents' separation, she moved to England to live with her mother in Oxfordshire and attended the Dragon School. After high school, she took a year off from studies to film the Harry Potter movies and then enrolled herself at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She again took a break but attended Worcester College in Oxford during the 2011–12 academic year as a visiting student. She then graduated from Brown University with a bachelor's degree in English literature on May 25, 2014.
She had wanted to become an actress from the age of six, and trained at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theatre school where she studied singing, dancing, and acting.
