Gulkirat Kaur Panag or Gul Panag, as she is popularly known, is an Indian actress who works in the Hindi film industry, and apart from that, she is also a voice actress, model, and former beauty queen who competed in the Miss Universe pageant. She made her Bollywood debut in 2003 in movie Dhoop alongside actors Sanjay Suri, Om Puri and Revathi.
Gul started her career as a model, and in 1999 she won the Miss India title and was also crowned Miss Beautiful Smile at the same pageant. She also participated in the Miss Universe 1999 pageant.
PERSONAL LIFE:
Gul Panag was born on January 3, 1979 in Chandigarh into a second-generation armed forces family. Her father, Lt. Gen. Panag was in the army and the family moved to different places across India and abroad. After studying in 14 different schools, mostly in India and one abroad, she did her Bachelors in Mathematics from Punjabi University, Patiala, and Masters in Political Science from Panjab University, Chandigarh. She is married to her long-time boyfriend, Rishi Attari, an airline pilot, and they have a son named Nihal, born in 2018.
2005-2019 CAREER:
In 2005, Gul starred in the movie Jurm alongside Bobby Deol, Lara Dutta and Milind Soman and the film did okay at the box office. The following year she acted in Dor, which also featured Ayesha Takia and Shreyas Talpade in lead roles, and which won her the Zee Cine Critics Award - Best Actress along with Ayesha.
After that she starred in a number of movies, namely, Manorama Six Feet Under (2007), Summer 2007 (2008), Hello (2008), Anubhav (2009), Straight (2009), Rann (2010), Hello Darling (2010), Turning 30 (2011), Phir Zindagi (2011), Fatso! (2012), Punjabi movie Sikander (2013), Ab Tak Chhappan 2 (2015), Ambarsariya (Punjabi)(2016), and Student of the Year 2 (2019).
Her next is 2019 movie Bypass Road, which also stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Adah Sharma, and Sudhanshu Pandey in lead roles, and which hits screens on November 1.
POLITICAL CAREER:
Gul had contested in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections as a candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party from Chandigarh. She finished in the third spot, with BJP's Kirron Kher winning the polls.
OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS:
Gul is a serial half-marathon runner, an avid biker who is also a certified pilot and was trained on a professional platform - Formula E. Panag. She debuted on the racing track at the Circuit de Calafat in Catalonia, Spain. The Government of Finland had appointed Gul as an honorary tourism ambassador as part of the 'Visit Finland' program in the year 2011. She is also co-founder of a technology company, Mobiefit that makes fitness apps.
