Mouni Roy is an Indian television and film actress who is well known for her role as Krishna Tulsi in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and as Shivangi/Shivanya in Naagin. She made her first appearance in a Hindi movie as a background dancer in the song Nahi Hona in 2004 movie Run, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Bhumika Chawla.
Mouni has starred in several television serials beginning in the year 2006-2007 with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, and she has also appeared in a number of reality shows, either as a guest or a contestant. She made her debut in Hindi cinema in 2018 with sports biopic Gold opposite Akshay Kumar, for which she was nominated Best Female Debut at the 64th Filmfare Awards.
Some of the shows that she has appeared as a contestant and guest contestant in are, Kaho Na Yaar Hai (2008), Zara Nachke Dikha (2008), Pati Patni Aur Woh (2009), Nach Baliye 6 (2014), Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7 (2014), Box Cricket League 2 (2016), and Lip Sing Battle (2017). Mouni was also a guest on Bigg Boss 8 (2014), Comedy Nights with Kapil (2015), Bigg Boss 9 (2015), Bigg Boss 10 (2016), Bigg Boss 11 (2017), India's Next Top Model 3 (2017), Entertainment Ki Raat (2017), Dance Deewane (2018), and Nach Baliye 9 (2019).
TELEVISION AND FILM CAREER:
The television serials she has appeared in are Kasturi (2008), Do Saheliyaan... Kismat Ki Kathputaliyaan (2010), Sshhh... Phir Koi Hai- Trittya (2010), Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev (2011–2012, 2014), Junoon – Aisi Nafrat Toh Kaisa Ishq (2012–2013), Naagin 1 (2015–2016), Naagin 2 (2016–2017), Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat (2016), Naagin 3 (2018-2019) and guest appearance in Krishna Chali London (2018).
In 2011, Mouni starred in Punjabi movie Hero Hitler in Love alongside Babbu Maan and Bhagwant Maan, and though the movie performed well at the box office at the start, it began to lose traction. She was the voice of Sita in 2016 animated film Mahayodha Rama, and in the same year, she made a special appearance in song Nachna Aaonda Nahin for movie Tum Bin II.
Mouni then made her debut with 2018 movie Gold alongside Akshay Kumar, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh, Amit Sadh, and Sunny Kaushal. It was the first Bollywood film to be released in Saudi Arabia, and it proved to be a critical and commercial success. In the same year, she made a special appearance in song Gali Gali for movie K.G.F: Chapter 1.
Then in 2019, she starred in Romeo Akbar Walter alongside John Abraham, Jackie Shroff and Sikandar Kher. The movie about a banker who turns spy for an undercover operation in Pakistan, was released in April 2019 and it received mixed reviews.
She also has a number of movies lined up and will next be seen in movie Made In China alongside Rajkummar Rao and Boman Irani, in biographical film Mogul, and in Brahmastra, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Akkineni Nagarjuna.
PERSONAL LIFE:
Mouni Roy was born on September 28, 1985 in Cooch Behar, West Bengal to a Bengali family. Her father Anil Roy was an office superintendent of the Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad and her mother Mukti was a theatre artist. Her grandfather, Shekhar Chandra Roy was a well-known Jatra theatre artist.
EDUCATION:
Mouni completed her 12th from Kendriya Vidyalaya in Baburhat, Cooch Behar, and then at her parents' insistence, she studied mass communication at Jamia Milia Islamia. She did not complete her course as she left it midway to go and try her luck in films in Mumbai.
