Rahul Khanna is an Indian actor who works in the Hindi film industry. He made his debut in 1999 with Deepa Mehta's period romance drama Earth, which had also starred actors Aamir Khan, Nandita Das and Maia Sethna, and he won the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his part.
Rahul then went on to star in 2002 Canadian romantic comedy Bollywood/Hollywood opposite actress Lisa Ray. Directed by Deepa Mehta, the movie got mixed reviews upon its release, though it did win Student Jury Award at the Newport International Film Festival, the Audience Award (Best Comedy) at the Sarasota Film Festival, and the Best Director (Canadian Film) at the Vancouver Film Critics Circle. The same year he starred in The Emperor's Club, an American drama film directed by Michael Hoffman and starring Kevin Kline.
In 2005, Rahul acted in Elaan, a Hindi action-thriller that also starred actors John Abraham, Arjun Rampal, Lara Dutta, Amisha Patel and Mithun Chakraborty, and it was an average grosser at the box office. In 2007, he starred in Raqeeb alongside Sharman Joshi, Jimmy Sheirgill, and Tanushree Dutta and it received mixed reviews from critics. The following year he starred in two movies, Tahaan and Dil Kabaddi. Tahaan, which also starred Anupam Kher, Sarika, Rahul Bose, and Victor Banerjee, got positive reviews upon its release. In Dil Kabaddi, Rahul acted alongside Irrfan Khan, Rahul Bose, Konkona Sen Sharma, Soha Ali Khan, Payal Rohatgi, and it featured a special appearance by Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Rahul then made a special appearance in 2009 movie Love Aaj Kal, which starred Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, and then played Chief Editor of 'Mumbai Beats' Magazine in movie Wake Up Sid. His last appearance in movies was in 2013 in film Fireflies alongside Arjun Mathur, Shivani Ghai, Monica Dogra and Aadya Bedi.
TELEVISION CAREER:
In 2013, he starred as Tarun Khosla in action-thriller television series 24, then in 2014-2015 as Yousaf Rana in American period spy thriller television series The Americans. His latest stint with television is in web television series Leila, which is directed by Deepa Mehta. The six-episode series premiered on June 14, 2019 on Netflix.
PERSONAL LIFE:
Rahul Khanna was born on June 20, 1972 in Mumbai to late actor Vinod Khanna and Gitanjali Taleyar Khanna and he has a younger brother, Akshaye Khanna, who is also an actor. He studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and along with being an actor, he is also a VJ and writer.
