Rajkummar Rao is an Indian actor who works in the Hindi film industry, and he has won a number of awards. He had his first Bollywood breakthrough in 2013 with movies Kai Po Che! and biographical drama Shahid. He received his first Best Supporting Actor nomination at Filmfare for the former, and a National Film Award for Best Actor and the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for the latter.
Beginning his acting career in 2010, Rajkummar's first role was as a newsreader in movie Rann. He then starred in Love Sex Aur Dhokha alongside a number of newcomers and non-actors. The next year he starred in Ragini MMS opposite Kainaz Motivala and along with positive reviews it also did well at the box office. The same year he starred in Shaitan alongside Rajeev Khandelwal, Kalki Koechlin, Gulshan Devaiya, Shiv Panditt, Neil Bhoopalam, Kirti Kulhari, Rajit Kapoor, and Pawan Malhotra.
In 2012, Rajkummar starred in three movies - Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2, Chittagong and Talaash: The Answer Lies Within. In 2013, along with Kai Po Che! and Shahid, he starred in Boyss Toh Boyss Hain, and made a cameo appearance in D-Day and A New Love Ishtory.
2014 TO 2019:
Rajkummar has starred in a good number of movies, with 2014 seeing him in comedy movie Queen, CityLights, and short film Bombay Mirror. He followed them with Dolly Ki Doli and Hamari Adhuri Kahani (2015), in 2016 with Aligarh, which he was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor, and Trapped, which won him Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor.
In 2017, he starred in Behen Hogi Teri; Bareilly Ki Barfi, which earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor; Newton, which won him Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Performance by an Actor; and in Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana.
The year 2018 was a busy year for Rajkummar as he starred in five movies, namely, Omerta, Fanney Khan, Stree, Love Sonia, and 5 Weddings, which is an English language film set in the United States and India. In 2019, he starred in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga and Judgementall Hai Kya, and will next be seen in Made In China. He will also be seen in 2020 in movies Turram Khan and Roohi Afza.
Rajkummar also starred in 2017 web television miniseries Bose: Dead/Alive, which was based on the book India's Biggest Cover-up by activist Anuj Dhar.
PERSONAL LIFE:
Rajkummar Rao was born on August 31, 1984 as Raj Kumar Yadav in Gurugram, Haryana and finished his schooling from SN Sidheshwar Senior Secondary School in Gurugram and graduated in Arts from Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (ARSD)–University of Delhi. He was simultaneously doing theatre with Kshitij Repertory and Shri Ram Centre (SRC) in Delhi. In 2008, Rajkummar graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and shifted to Mumbai for a film career.
He has been in a relationship with actress Patralekha Paul since 2010.
