Sonika Chauhan was a renowned Indian model, actress, and TV host from Kolkata who worked in the Bengali film and television industry. She came into the limelight after she contested in the Femina Miss India and Miss Diva pageant in 2013.
Sonika was also popular in the Mumbai modelling circuits and was hosting a prime time TV show on a national channel. She became well known after she started anchoring the Pro Kabaddi League.
PERSONAL LIFE:
Sonika Chauhan was born on July 12, 1989 and was the only child of a Christian mother, Sharon Singh Chauhan, and a Hindu father, Vijay Singh Chauhan. She did her schooling from La Martiniere Girls School in Kolkata and completed her higher education from Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru.
DEATH:
Sonika met with a fatal accident in the early hours of April 29, 2017 after her friend Vikram Chatterjee, who was behind the wheel and driving at a speed of 100-110 kmph, lost control of the car and rammed it into a jewellery store and a flag post on Kolkata's Rashbehari Avenue.
LEGACY:
Sonika's parents launched the Sonika Chauhan 27 Foundation on July 12, 2017 at Tollygunge Club as a gift and a commemoration to Sonika on her birthday. The foundation will take forward the legacy of Sonika Simone Singh Chauhan by touching the lives of young people, without any discrimination of caste, creed or religion.
