Suriya, who was born Saravanan Sivakumar, is an Indian actor, producer and television presenter who works predominantly in the Tamil film industry. He made his debut in 1997 in Tamil movie Nerrukku Ner and is a recipient of three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and four Filmfare Awards South. He made his debut as a television presenter in 2012 with the game show Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi, which is the Tamil version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.
Suriya has featured in over 40 movies, starring in some and making special appearances in others, and has also featured in a music video, which was in 2017 for Maatrangal Ondre Dhaan that was performed by Nivas K. Prasanna.
1998 TO 2007:
After making his debut in 1997, Suriya went on to star and make special appearances in Kaadhale Nimmadhi (1998), Sandhippoma (1998), Periyanna (1999), Poovellam Kettuppar (1999), Uyirile Kalanthathu (2000), Friends (2001), Nandha (2001), Unnai Ninaithu (2002), Shree (2002), Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002), Kaakha Kaakha (2003), Pithamagan (2003), Perazhagan (2004), Aaytha Ezhuthu (2004), Maayavi (2005), Ghajini (2005), Aaru (2005), June R (Special Appearance-2006), Sillunu Oru Kaadhal (2006), and in Vel (2007).
2008 TO 2012:
In 2008, Suriya made a special appearance in the song Cinema Cinema from the movie Kuselan, and the same year starred in Vaaranam Aayiram. After that he starred in Ayan (2009), Aadhavan (2009), Singam (2010), Rakta Charitra 2 (2010), Manmadan Ambu (Special Appearance in song Oyyale-2010), Ko (Special Appearance in the song Aga Naga-2011), Avan Ivan (Guest Appearance-2011), 7aum Arivu (2011), and Maattrraan (2012).
2013 TO 2020:
Suriya made a special appearance in movie Chennaiyil Oru Naal, and then starred in Singam II in 2013. He followed it with Ninaithathu Yaaro (Special Appearance in song Kairegai-2014), Anjaan (2014), Massu Engira Masilamani (2015), Pasanga 2 (Cameo-2015), 24 (2016), Si3 (2017), Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (2018), Kadaikutty Singam (Special Appearance-2018), NGK (2019), and Kaappaan (2019). He will next be seen in Soorarai Pottru, which is being produced by his production house 2D Entertainment.
PERSONAL LIFE:
Suriya was born on July 23, 1975 to Tamil film actor Sivakumar and Lakshmi and he has a younger sister and a brother who is also an actor. He attended Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School and St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai, and obtained his undergraduate degree B.Com from Loyola College, Chennai. He is married to actress Jyothika and they have two children together.
