Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar or Thalapathy Vijay as he is fondly called, is an Indian actor and playback singer who works predominantly in the Tamil film industry. He made his big-screen debut at the age of 10 as a child artist in 1984 movie Vetri, which was directed by his father.
From 1984 to 1988 he had a number of roles as a child artist, starring in some and making a cameo in another. The movies he was featured in were Kudumbam, Vasantha Raagam, Sattam Oru Vilayaattu, and Ithu Engal Neethi.
1992 TO 1996:
Thalapathy Vijay has starred in over 60 movies since he made his debut as a lead actor in 1992. In 4 years he starred in 12 movies, namely, Naalaiya Theerpu (1992), Sendhoorapandi (1993), Rasigan (1994), Deva (1995), Rajavin Parvaiyile (1995), Vishnu (1995), Chandralekha (1995), Coimbatore Mappillai (1996), Poove Unakkaga (1996), Vasantha Vaasal (1996), Maanbumigu Maanavan (1996), and Selva (1996). Half of the movies were directed by his father.
1997 TO 2000:
There was no slowing down for Vijay, as is evident from the 5 movies he starred in, in 1997, namely, Kaalamellam Kaathiruppen, Love Today, Once More, Nerrukku Ner, and Kadhalukku Mariyadhai. He followed them with three in 1998, namely, Ninaithen Vandhai, Priyamudan, and Nilaave Vaa, four in 1999 - Thulladha Manamum Thullum, Endrendrum Kadhal, Nenjinile, and Minsara Kanna, and three in 2000, namely, Kannukkul Nilavu, Kushi, and Priyamaanavale.
2001 TO 2007:
Vijay starred in a number of movies in a year, in 2001 he acted in Friends, Badri, and Shahjahan, in 2002 in Thamizhan, Youth, and Bagavathi, in 2003 in Vaseegara, Pudhiya Geethai, and Thirumalai. In 2004, he starred in Udhaya, Ghilli, and Madhurey, in 2005 in Thirupaachi, Sukran (Special Appearance), Sachein, and Sivakasi, in 2006 in Aathi, and in 2007 in Pokkiri and Azhagiya Tamil Magan.
2008 TO 2020:
In this period he features in 18 movies, namely, Kuruvi (2008), Pandhayam (2008-Special Appearance), Villu (2009), Vettaikaaran (2009), Sura (2010), Kaavalan (2011), Velayudham (2011), Nanban (2012), Rowdy Rathore (2012-Special Appearance in the song Chinta Ta), Thuppakki (2012), Thalaivaa (2013), Jilla (2014), Kaththi (2014), Puli (2015), Theri (2016), Bairavaa (2017), Mersal (2017), and Sarkar (2018). He will next be seen in Bigil (2019), and Thalapathy 64 (2020).
PERSONAL LIFE:
Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar was born on June 22, 1974 in Madras, Tamil Nadu to SA Chandrasekhar, a director, and Shoba, a singer. He studied at the Loyola College in Chennai, and is married to Sangeeta Sornalingam and has a son and daughter with her. He is one of the highest-paid actors in the industry and is often referred to by fans and media as Thalapathy (commander).
MISCELLANEOUS:
Vijay is a recipient of numerous awards both national and international, and has also been noticed for his singing, having sung over thirty songs in his films, starting with Bombay City in 1994.
