Vikram or Chiyaan Vikram was born Kennedy John Victor and he is an Indian actor and singer who works predominantly in the Tamil film industry. He made his debut in 1990 in Tamil movie En Kadhal Kanmani. He is a recipient of numerous awards among them seven Filmfare Awards, a National Film Award, and a Tamil Nadu State Film Award.
Apart from Tamil, Vikram has starred in Malayalam, Telegu and Hindi movies, and he has also promoted various social causes and appeared as the Youth Envoy for the United Nations Human Settlements Programme in 2011.
1991 TO 1999:
Vikram has starred in a good number of movies, namely, Thanthu Vitten Ennai (1991), Kaaval Geetham (1992), Meera (1992), Dhruvam (1993), Chirunavvula Varamistava (1993), Mafia (1993), Akka Pettanam Chelleli Kapuram (1993), Sainyam (1994), Bangaru Kutumbam (1994), Pudhiya Mannargal (1994), Street (1995), Aadaalla Majaka (1995), Ooha (1996), Mayoora Nritham (1996), Akka! 2000 TO 2010:
From 2000 to 2010, Vikram starred in over 20 movies, namely, Red Indians (2000), Indriyam (2000), 9 Nelalu (2000), Youth (2001), Vinnukum Mannukum (2001), Dhill (2001), Kasi (2001), Gemini (2002), Samurai (2002), King (2002), Dhool (2003), Kadhal Sadugudu (2003), Saamy (2003), Pithamagan (2003), Arul (2004), Anniyan (2005), Majaa (2005), Bheemaa (2008), Kanthaswamy (2009), Raavanan (Tamil-2010), and Raavan (Hindi-2010). He won a Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Tamil for Kasi, and a National Film Award for Best Actor for Pithamagan.
2011 TO 2019:
In 2011, Vikram starred in Deiva Thirumagal for which he earned a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor – South, and in Rajapattai. After that, he starred in Thaandavam (2012), David (Tamil/Hindi-2013), I (2015), 10 Endrathukulla (2015), Iru Mugan (2016), Sketch (2018), Saamy Square (2018), and Kadaram Kondan (2019).
Vikram, who will be featured in two other movies, namely, Dhruva Natchathiram and Mahavir Karna, has also appeared in two television serials, Galatta Kudumbam and Siragugal.
PERSONAL LIFE:
Vikram was born Kennedy John Victor on April 17, 1966 in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu to John Victor and Rajeshwari, and he has two siblings. He was educated at Montfort School, Yercaud, a boarding school in a hill station near Salem, and graduated from Loyola College, Chennai with a degree in English Literature. He was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the People's University of Milan in May 2011. He is married to Shailaja Balakrishnan with whom he has two children.
