The news is being reported from the Betul district of Madhya Pradesh where the Income Tax department has served a tax notice of approximately Rs 7 crore to a government teacher in Pathkheda village who died 10 years ago. It was when the family of the deceased teacher Usha Soni filed a complaint that the case made it to the news.

The incident took place on Thursday. The accused allegedly lured the girl to an isolated place and assaulted her. The profusely bleeding girl was admitted to a hospital at the divisional headquarters Rewa for advanced medical care, said the police, adding the accused were identified as Ravindra Kumar Ravi and Atul Bhadoliya.

A senior official also said that the accused had allegedly inserted a hard object in her private parts. However, the official said that it can be confirmed only after the victim’s medical examination report is received, news agency PTI reported citing police sources.

“I am not denying that a stick or some other object was inserted into the 12-year-old’s private parts by accused Ravindra Kumar Ravi and Atul Bhadoliya. But this is something that can only be confirmed in a medical report. We are still awaiting her medical report. Yes she was bleeding and doctors are monitoring her health,” Satna Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Gupta told PTI over the phone.

“Her body bore bites and injuries which pertain to sexual assault,” he said. Asked about the condition of the girl, the SP said a panel of doctors treating her said her condition was “okay” at his point of time. “We are taking legal action against the accused,” Gupta said.

The accused, both aged 30, were on Friday produced in a local court which sent them in 14-day judicial custody, Gupta said. The duo was booked under IPC sections 376 (punishment for rape), 376DB (punishment for gang rape on woman under 12 years of age), 366A (procuration of minor girl), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 34 (common intention) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the police said.

In a related development, a press statement issued by the Maa Sharda Devi Mandir Management Committee, Maihar, bearing the signature of its administrator, stated they have sacked Ravi and Bhadoliya, employed with them, forthwith after a criminal case was registered against them. “Their indecent act has tarnished the image of the temple,” said the statement.

CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan responds

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed the police to take strict action against the accused and provide best of possible medical treatment to the girl.

“I have received information about the rape in Maihar. My heart is full of pain, I am distressed. The police have arrested the criminals. Instructions have been given to the administration to make arrangements for proper treatment of the girl.  No criminal will be spared, strictest action will be taken,” Chouhan said.

Condemning the incident, Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath said the victim was subjected to an inhuman attack that was reminiscent of the 2012 Nirbhaya case of Delhi. The gruesome 2012 episode, commonly known as the Nirbhaya case, involved rape and fatal assault on a 23-year-old woman in the national capital which caused nationwide outrage and triggered protests.

Such incidents with sisters and daughters have become a routine affair in Madhya Pradesh and it proved that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s government has failed to provide them security, Nath claimed in a tweet. He demanded best medical treatment and a financial assistance of Rs 1 crore for the girl.

Amid Probe Over Theft Of Gold Coins, Madhya Pradesh Cops Accused Of Stealing Silver From Tribals https://www.india.com/madhya-pradesh/amid-probe-over-theft-of-gold-coins-madhya-pradesh-cops-accused-of-stealing-silver-from-tribals-6189949/ Wed, 26 Jul 2023 18:12:26 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6189949 New Delhi: Two days after four policemen in Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur district were accused of robbing 240 British-era gold coins from a tribal family leading to a special investigation team (SIT) probe, a similar complaint was lodged on Wednesday, accusing state police of stealing silver from another family in the same tribal-dominated district.

As per the complaint, policemen at Nanpur police station allegedly handed over less quantity and inferior quality of silver to some tribal families who had filed a complaint about the theft of the precious metal from their homes.

Tainsingh and Kailas Tomar approached the Nanpur police on January 21 last year complaining about the theft of silver from their homes. The police recovered the white metal on April 24, 2022, after arresting a gang of four; a PTI report said quoting police sources.

Impure silver, less quantity given back

As per the report, the complainants then approached the police station through their lawyer and later submitted a court order for getting their valuables back, following which the Nanpur police handed over 2 kg of silver to Tainsingh and 1.5 kg to Tomar on July 18 this year. However, the duo claimed that the silver handed to them by the cops is not only less in quantity but also of inferior quality.

“We got suspicious after seeing the silver as it looked new and did not resemble the one that was stolen. We took the silver to a jeweller to check its authenticity and were shocked to know that it was impure,” the two tribal men told newsmen, according to the PTI report.

The two approached the office of the superintendent of police (SP) and demanded that they be given their original silver. Acting on the complaint, SP Hansraj Singh directed Jobat sub-divisional officer of police Neeraj Namdeo to probe the matter, said an official.

Police launches probe

“We have recorded initial statements and will soon complete the probe. Whoever is found guilty in the matter, action will be taken against them,” the senior official said.

‘Cops stole our gold’

The latest accusation comes amid an SIT probe against four cops from Sondwa police station for allegedly stealing 240 British-era gold coins from a tribal family that had stumbled upon the antique items while digging at a site in Gujarat and hidden them at their home in Alirajpur district.

All four police personnel, including the Sondwa police station house officer and three constables, have been suspended, Superintendent of Police Hansraj Singh told news agency PTI.

Asked how the tribal family got the gold coins, the SP said the complainant claimed they had stumbled upon the coins while digging in Gujarat.

A case of theft has been registered against the four personnel under section 379 of the Indian Penal Code, he said.

The FIR, however, named only one constable while three other police personnel are named as unidentified accused.

Anju In Pakistan: ‘She Abandoned Her Kids. Let Her Die There’, says Father After Marriage To Nasrullah https://www.india.com/news/india/anju-in-pakistan-she-abandoned-her-kids-let-her-die-there-says-father-after-marriage-to-nasrullah-6187954/ Tue, 25 Jul 2023 16:43:29 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6187954 Gwalior, MP: Gaya Prasad Thomas, the father of Anju, a mother of two who recently travelled to Pakistan and got married to her lover Nasrullah in the neighbouring country’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday, said he prayed his daughter dies in Pakistan as she abandoned her husband and two young kids.

Speaking to reporters at the Bouna village in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district, Thomas rebuked her daughter’s choices, saying that the 34-year-old married woman has abandoned her two minor kids and ruined their future.

‘She’s dead to us’

“The way she ran away, leaving her two children and husband behind…. she did not even think of her children. If she wanted to do this, she should have divorced her husband first. She is no more (alive) for us,” Anju’s father said, according to news agency PTI.

Asked whether he will appeal to the Indian government to bring her back, Thomas said he would do no such thing.

“I pray…to let her die there,” he added.

Asked if Anju had converted to Islam, as reported by Pakistan-based media outlets, Thomas said he does know anything about that but reiterated that her decision has cost the two kids their futures and ruined a functioning family.

Ruined future of her children

“What will happen to her children, her husband? Who will take care of her children 13-year-old girl and five-year-old boy? She has ruined the future of her children and the husband. Who will take care of her kids….We will have to do it,” Thomas said.

The elderly father reiterated that he wasn’t on speaking terms with his daughters and only spoke to her mother, his wife.

“I don’t know how she got the passport, when she got the visa,” he said.

Asked about speculation in some quarters that there could be something more to the incident as his village is close to Tekanpur town where a major unit of the Border Security Force (BSF) is stationed, Thomas rejected the suggestion vehemently.

“No one raised any such issue with us. Only you (media) are raising this question. My kids have no criminal tendencies. I am ready to have any probe in the matter,” he said.

On Monday, Thomas had described his daughter as “mentally disturbed and eccentric.”

Anju is now Fatima, wife of Nasrullah…

Earlier in the day, a report said that Anju married, 29-year-old Nasrullah, a Pakistani man she befriended on Facebook and fell in love with. Anju reportedly converted to Islam before tying the knot with Nasrullah and has taken the name Fatima.

Professionally shot videos shared by Pakistan-based twitter handles showed Anju and Nasrullah holding hands and roaming around in the picturesque valley of Pakistan’s Upper Dir district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

She had been staying at Nasrullah’s home in a village of Upper Dir district. Anju and Nasrullah tied the knot in a local court of a district and sessions judge amid tight security.

“Nasrullah and Anju’s marriage was solemnised today and a proper nikkah was performed after she converted to Islam,” senior officer at Moharrar City Police Station in Upper Dir district Muhammad Wahab told news agency PTI.

Govt Official in Madhya Pradesh Swallows Rs 5,000 Bribe Money After Spotting Cops https://www.india.com/madhya-pradesh/govt-official-in-madhya-pradesh-swallows-rs-5000-bribe-money-after-spotting-cops-6187045/ Tue, 25 Jul 2023 07:43:53 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6187045 Jabalpur: A government official at the revenue department in Madhya Pradesh’s Katni swallowed a huge amount of money he had taken as bribe, after he spotted a team of the Lokayukta’s Special Police Establishment (SPE) at his private office. The incident that was caught on camera, was reported on Monday, when patwari Gajendra Singh, received Rs 5,000 as a bribe in his private office, SPE Superintendent of Police Sanjay Sahu said.

How The Official Was Arrested?

Sanjay Sahu further added that a man from Barkheda village had complained that the government official was seeking a bribe. After he received the money, the patwari spotted the SPE team and swallowed the bribe money. “He was rushed to a hospital where doctors said he was fine,” Sahu said.

Why The Official Swalloed Bribe Money?

After a thorough probe, the Lokayukta Jabalpur team arrested Gajendra Singh while he was accepting a bribe at his private office in Bilhari. After his arrest, the official tried to swallow the bribe money, attempting to hide the evidence.

A case has been registered against the government official and further probe was underway, the SP said.

Notably, the action on the official was initiated after he demanded money from a man from Barkheda village for solving a property dispute.

Similar Cases In The Recent Past

However, this is not the first case when such an incident was reported. Earlier in a similar manner, two Delhi Police head constables were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly demanding bribe to allow e-rickshaw charging and parking in Delhi’s Mangolpuri area.

In this regard, the CBI earlier had received a complaint on July 10, lodged by an e-rickshaw charging shop operator located at LSC Market, K Block in Mangolpuri.

As per the complaint on July 7, Head Constable Bhim from the Mangolpuri police station threatened the complainant, trying to disrupt their business operations, confiscate e-rickshaws, and demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 in exchange for granting permission to park and charge e-rickshaws in front of the shop.

However, the CBI caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe and the whole incident was captured on CCTV footage from a camera installed outside the police station.

Last week, another such incident was reported in Jharkhand where a team of the Hazaribagh Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught a government official while accepting a bribe in her first posting. Identified as Mithali Sharma, the government official was posted as an assistant registrar of the cooperative department in Jharkhand’s Koderma eight months ago.

The government official was arrested by the Hazaribagh ACB on July 7 after the video and photos of her accepting the bribe went viral on social media and sparked widespread criticism.

After her arrest, the ACB team took Mithali Sharma to Hazaribagh for further proceedings, while an investigation into the incident is underway.

Giving details about the arrest, an ACB officer stated that Sharma had conducted a surprise inspection at the Koderma Vyapar Sahyog Samiti and found some discrepancies there during the inspection. She also demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the authorities there for not taking action against them, the official said.

Rameshwar Prasad Yadav, a member of the organization, filed a complaint with the ACB DG after being asked to pay the bribe by the official .

Then the ACB team carried out an investigation into the allegations and confirmed that Mitali Sharma had demanded Rs 20,000 from the committee. Later, a case was registered, and a trap was set up.

As per the plan on July 7, the surveillance team arrested Sharma red-handed while she was accepting Rs 10,000 as the first installment of the demanded bribe.

Madhya Pradesh Shocker: 34-Yr-Old Man Stripped, Punched And Forced To Lift Shoe With Mouth, 3 Held https://www.india.com/news/india/madhya-pradesh-shocker-34-yr-old-man-stripped-punched-and-forced-to-lift-shoe-with-mouth-3-held-6185630/ Mon, 24 Jul 2023 13:30:41 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6185630 Rewa, MP: Amid a spate of brutal incidents that have rocked Madhya Pradesh recently, another horrific video has emerged from the state showing a 34-year-old man being stripped half-naked, punched, and forced to pick up a shoe with his mouth in Rewa district. Police said three people, including the prime accused, have been arrested after video went viral.

The video, which has gone viral on social media platforms, was reportedly shot over two years ago in May 2021, police said. In the viral clip, the victim can be seen with his hands tied behind his back as he begs for mercy from his tormentors.

The video shows the victim with his hands tied behind his back and his pants pulled down, being repeatedly punched and slapped by the assailant. He was also allegedly forced to pick up a shoe with his mouth.

A property dispute seems to be the prima facie trigger behind the crime, a police officer said.

“On seeing the video, we have arrested the prime accused Jawahar Singh (55), a member of the Gond tribe, and his two accomplices,” Rewa Superintendent of Police Vivek Singh told news agency PTI.

He said the video, which started doing rounds of social media last week, was recorded in May 2021 at Piprahi village under the Hanumna police station limits in Rewa.

According to the police, the prime accused is a tribal while the victim belongs to an upper caste.

The police officer said the prime accused is employed as a clerk at a government school and is the husband of a village sarpanch.

“He kidnapped the other man, stripped him half naked, tied his hands behind the back, punched him, and made him pick up a shoe by his mouth,” the SP said.

An FIR has been registered against Jawahar Singh and two others under various sections of the Indian Penal Code on Saturday. A local court remanded the trio in judicial custody.

A flurry of brutal incidents

Madhya Pradesh has been in the eye of the storm recently due to several incidents of assault against people belonging to the lower strata, including the infamous Sidhi pee-gate case where a man was seen urinating on a tribal youth.

A disturbing video emerged earlier this month from a village in the state’s Narmadapuram district where three young men were stripped half-naked and brutally thrashed with wooden sticks by a group of people for allegedly “misbehaving” with villagers.

The viral video shows the three men lying on the ground, half-naked on their belly, while around half-a-dozen men viciously beat them with wooden sticks without mercy.

Earlier, the the infamous Sidhi urination incident swirled up a sea of outrage across the country.

Another shocking video, which emerged from Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar city earlier this month, showed a theft-accused man being stripped naked and then viciously assaulted with pipes and wooden sticks by a group of unidentified men.

The viral video showed the victim sitting down naked against a wall and holding out his hands while the men hit his appendages with wooden sticks and pipes. The victim’s clothes are seen lying next to him.

4 Madhya Pradesh Cops Accused Of Thrashing Tribal Family, Stealing 240 Gold Coins From Their House https://www.india.com/madhya-pradesh/4-madhya-pradesh-cops-accused-of-thrashing-tribal-family-stealing-240-gold-coins-from-their-house-6184132/ Sun, 23 Jul 2023 18:43:35 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6184132 Alirajpur, MP: An FIR has been registered against four policemen for allegedly stealing 240 gold coins from a tribal family after thrashing one of the family members in Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh, an official said on Sunday.

All four police personnel, including the Sondwa police station house officer and three constables, have been suspended, Superintendent of Police Hansraj Singh told PTI.

Queried how the tribal family got the gold coins, the SP said the complainant claimed they had stumbled upon the coins while digging in Gujarat.

A case of theft has been registered against the four personnel under section 379 of the Indian Penal Code, he said.

The FIR, however, named only one constable while three other police personnel are named as unidentified accused.

When asked about this, Singh said the suspension is based on “reasonable confirmation”.

“Besides, we want the ongoing inquiry to be impartial and fair and ensure no one influences it,” Singh said.

He said a complaint was lodged by one Shambhu Singh claiming that four personnel of Sondwa police station came to his house in Baijda village on July 19.

“They thrashed the complainant’s wife and took away 240 gold coins buried in the house,” the SP said quoting the First Information Report.

The family named only one policeman in the FIR on July 20 but they named three others, including the inspector, on July 21, the SP added.

The complainant claimed he had stumbled upon gold coins when he and his family members were working as labourers in Gujarat, he said.

“They hid the coins under the ground in their house in Alirajpur district,” Singh said.

Alirajpur Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Shraddha Sonkar investigated the complaint after which the four policemen were suspended and FIR was registered.

On Sunday, former Alirajpur MLA and Madhya Pradesh BJP vice president, Nagar Singh Chauhan, and others gheraoed Sondwa police station for two hours.

He demanded the four policemen be booked on the charge of looting instead of theft and gold coins be recovered.

They threatened to call for a bandh in Sondwa if the four police personnel are not arrested by Tuesday.

The superintendent of police said arrests would be made based on evidence.

He said the complainant brought one of the gold coins to the police which weighed 7.98 gm. The British-era coin, dating back to 1922, was 90 per cent pure gold.

“They brought one of the coins to us yesterday (Saturday) saying that it was from the lot that was stolen,” the SP said.

He said a team has been sent to Gujarat to investigate the ruins from where the complaint claimed to have got the gold coins while digging.

Tribal men and women from Alirajpur, Jhabua and other districts in MP often travel to Gujarat and Rajasthan to eke out a living.
