According to the police, the incident took place Padampur town when Jaspal Singh hacked his son and wife to death over a domestic dispute between the couple and later tried to end his life by ingesting pesticide.

Giving details, a senior police official said that Jaspal Singh (40) had an argument with his wife Rupinder (38) over household chores which escalated and Singh in a fit of rage murdered his wife and 14-year-old son, Harmeet, with an axe. Following the grisly act, Singh tried to end his life by consuming pesticide.

Businessman kills wife, hacks daughter’s body into 10 pieces

In a similar incident, in June this year, a 53-year-old businessman was arrested in Dadar and Nagar Haveli for allegedly murdering his wife and 15-year-old old. According to the police, the accused, identified as Yogesh Mehta, a resident of Dokmardi area in Silvassa, later chopped his teenage daughter’s corpse into 10 pieces with a hammer and a knife and disposed off the body parts.

Mehta used to stay with his wife Reshma and two daughters, aged 18 and 15, the police said, adding that the couple got into a heated argument and later in a fit of rage, Mehta killed his wife and youngest daughter.

Police said the accused confessed to the murders and during interrogation revealed that he killed his wife after a heated argument. Police said that Mehta’s younger daughter witnessed her mother’s killing following which he killed her too.

16-Yr-Old Found Raped And Killed In Rajasthan Village, Body Dumped In Well, School Teacher Held https://www.india.com/rajasthan/16-yr-old-found-raped-and-killed-in-rajasthan-village-body-dumped-in-well-school-teacher-held-6219371/ Thu, 10 Aug 2023 18:01:04 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6219371 Jaipur, Rajasthan: A 16-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly raped and murdered in a village of Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district. The victim’s body was found dumped in a well in the village and her family has alleged that the teenager was abducted by her school teacher who raped and killed her. Police said the accused teacher has been arrested and a case of rape and murder has been registered against him at the Bonli police station based on a complaint by the deceased girl’s father.

Giving details, Bonli Circle officer said the victim’s father had lodged a complaint against her school teacher Ramratan Meena, after his daughter, a Class 12 student at a government-run school, went missing on August 8. In his complaint, the girl’s father had accused the teacher of abducting her.

After the recovery of the body on Thursday, the relatives of the girl and local villagers staged a protest placing the dead body in the school playground, the police said.

The victim’s family and other villagers demanded compensation, removal of the entire school staff, investigation by senior police officers and immediate arrest of the accused, they said, adding that the
post-mortem of the dead body could not be conducted due to the protest.

The accused teacher Ramratan Meena has been detained and is being interrogated, the CO said, adding that he has been suspended by the school.

All the male staff of the school have also been removed, the CO said.

Attacking the government over the incident, Rajendra Rathore, Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, said the crime against women has increased in the state under Congress rule.

“The safety of women has become the biggest question today under Congress rule. Another girl was raped and murdered in Sawai Madhopur. This incident of throwing the dead body into the well is shameful to humanity. This incident is also a question mark on the law and order of the state,” he said.

Slamming the government’s launch of the ‘Indira Gandhi Smartphone’ scheme for women on Thursday, Rathore said girls and women in the state need justice instead of smartphones.

The opposition has already been slamming the state government over the past week after the alleged gang rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district on August 2. Police have arrested four people, including the main accused, and detained a minor in connection with the case.

Anju In Pakistan: Husband Files FIR Against Runaway Wife, Her Pakistani Lover Nasrullah https://www.india.com/news/india/anju-in-pakistan-husband-files-fir-against-runaway-wife-her-pakistani-lover-nasrullah-6209954/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 13:03:59 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6209954 Jaipur/New Delhi: Arvind Kumar, the husband of Anju- the Indian mother of two who recently travelled to a remote village in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province where she married her lover, Nasrullah after embracing Islam and changing her name to Fatima– has filed an FIR against his runaway wife and her Pakistani lover in Alwar district of Rajasthan.

According to the police, based on a complaint by Arvind, a case was registered at the Phoolbagh police station under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 366 (inducing women for marriage), 494 (second marriage without divorce), 500 (defamation) and 506 (criminal Intimidation), besides provisions of the IT Act, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bhiwadi, Sujit Shankar told news agency PTI.

Arvind, Anju’s husband in India, said they are not divorced yet and hence cannot marry her Pakistani boyfriend, whom she befriended and fell in love with on Facebook in 2019.

Last month, according to a PTI report, senior police officers in Pakistan’s Upper Dir district revealed that Anju got married to her friend Nasrullah at a court there and proper a Nikah was performed after the she converted to Islam and changed her name to Fatima.

Kumar has also urged the Indian government to investigate Anju’s passport and visa to check if she used fake documents and signatures to travel to Pakistan.

Anju (34) was born in Kailor village in Uttar Pradesh and lived in Alwar district of Rajasthan. She and Pakistani national Nasrulla (29) became friends on Facebook in 2019.

Married or not?

Last month, reports emerged that Anju had converted to Islam, taken the name Fatima, and married Nasrullah. However, later that day, Anju—who is already married and mother to two young children, released a video on social media sites, trashing rumors of her alleged marriage to Nasrullah.

In the video, Anju, with Nasrullah sitting beside her on a couch, is heard claiming that reports of her marriage to her Facebook friends are rumors and she is merely here (in Pakistan) to visit Nasrullah and his family and also for sightseeing.

‘It’s so beautiful and peaceful’

In a recent video, Anju and her alleged Pakistani husband were seen roaming in the picturesque valleys of Upper Dir district in Pakistan’s mountainous Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The video filmed by a Pakistani vlogger, Noman Khan, shows the purported couple wandering in the scenic region amid the backdrop of lush valleys and silvery streams. Later in the video, Anju is heard lauding the beauty of the region and its people.

A Pakistan-based twitter handle named Fazal Hadi Hassan shared the video with the caption: “#Anju ‘s thoughts about the area where she on her visit. #AnjuinPakistan while visiting tourist spots in #Dir #KhyberPakhtunkhwa #Pakistan .On other end, Seema Haider story, background and the message that went to #Pakistanis & #indian people. #IndoPak love stories, eastern values, culture and religious perspective is big. #AnjuNasrullahLoveStory #simahaidar #Sima #India.”

Anju’s story shares eerie similarities with that of Seema Haider, a Pakistani mother of four who recently entered illegally into India via Nepal along with her four kids to marry Sachin Meena, a 22-year-old Uttar Pradesh resident she befriended and fell in love with while playing popular online shooter PUBG.

Another Cross-Border Marriage: Jodhpur Man Marries Pakistani Woman Online https://www.india.com/news/india/cross-border-marriage-jodhpur-man-marries-pakistani-woman-arbaaz-ameena-online-sachin-seema-haider-anju-nasrullah-6209307/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 06:04:56 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6209307 New Delhi: The relationship between India and Pakistan – a country that was carved out of India in 1947 – has been an intense one. Divided by borders and ideologies, India and Pakistan have fought many wars. Many from India migrated to Pakistan and vice versa during the partition. Stories of barrier-breaking romance and marriage between India and Pakistan have always gained public attention.

Recently, the cross-border love stories of Sachin-Seema Haider and Anju-Nasrullah have created a lot of buzz on social media. Another cross-border marriage story has come to the fore of an Indian man and a Pakistani woman.

A bride from Pakistan’s Karachi and a groom from Rajasthan’s Jodhpur tied the knot online after the woman failed to obtain an Indian visa on time. The special online Nikah took place on Wednesday in Jodhpur. All the rituals of Nikah were performed virtually and a Qazi solemnised the marriage and the bride present in Karachi said: “Qabool Hai”.

Arbaaz, the younger son of contractor Mohammad Afzal, who lives in Jodhpur, got married to a Pakistani woman, Ameena. The marriage was scheduled to take place in Karachi but due to visa-related issues, the nikah was done online.

In this unique wedding, Arbaaz and Ameena’s family members performed online rituals. Both families were connected through video conference.

Two big LED screens along with laptops were also installed at the venue.
The groom’s father, Mohammad Afzal, said that the bride from Pakistan will soon visit Jodhpur. “The girls there and their families also want to get married in Jodhpur. We also have relatives there. Now, we will prepare for visa. It is convenient for ordinary families like us to go for an online marriage as the expenses are also less. If we apply visa with Nikahnama (marriage certificate) of India then it will be easily available,” he said.

Bhargav Mishra’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his paying guest room in the Mahaveer Nagar area here around 8.30 pm on Friday, they added.

This is the eighteenth case of suspected suicide so far this year by coaching students preparing for competitive examinations here.

A resident of Champaran district in Bihar, Mishra came here in March this year. He was a student of Class 12 preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) at a coaching institute here.

The boy allegedly hanged himself to death in his room in Mahaveer Nagar-III here sometime around Friday noon, DSP Harshraj Singh said on Saturday morning.

The incident came to light when Mishra, who was last seen around 11 am on Friday, did not answer the repeated phone calls from his parents, following which the paying guest caretaker went to his room and found the door bolted from inside, Singh said.

When Mishra did not respond to his several calls, the caretaker reported the matter to the police who reached the spot around 8 .30 pm and broke the room open only to find the boy hanging from the ceiling fan, he added.

The reason behind the alleged suicide is yet to be ascertained, the DSP said, adding that no suicide note was recovered from his room.

Police are trying to gather more details about him and obtain his performance sheet from the coaching institute to assess his scoring status and regularity in the class, Singh said.

The body has been kept in the mortuary of New Medical College Hospital for the post-mortem which will be conducted once the teenager’s family members arrive here, the DSP added.

On the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, a 17-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly committed suicide by wrapping his face with a plastic bag in Rajasthan’s Kota, police said.

The body of the victim, Manjot Chabra, a resident of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, was found in his hostel room in the Vigyan Nagar area on Thursday morning.

However, Chabra’s parents alleged their son was murdered and have lodged a case against six people, including a classmate of the boy and the hostel owner.

Last year, at least 15 cases of suicide by coaching students were reported in this coaching hub.

Over 2 lakh students living in over 25,000 paying guest rooms and 3,500 hostels are currently taking coaching for entrance exams in various coaching institutes here.

Minor Girl’s Burnt Body Found In Rajasthan Brick Kiln, Police Suspect Rape, Villagers Demand Justice https://www.india.com/rajasthan/minor-girls-burnt-body-found-in-rajasthan-brick-kiln-police-suspect-rape-villagers-demand-justice-6203615/ Thu, 03 Aug 2023 06:53:26 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6203615 Bhilwara, Rajasthan: In a shocking incident, a minor girl’s burnt body was recovered from a brick kiln in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara on Wednesday. The horrifying killing of the 14-year-old girl has shaken the state and sparked widespread outrage, intensifying political tensions ahead of the upcoming election in the state.

The crime was committed early this morning, hours after the teen left home to graze goats with her mother. The victim was allegedly separated from her mother and when she didn’t return, her family and villagers spread out to look for her and searched all night until they found her remains in a brick kiln at a field near her home in the early hours of Thursday.

Police Suspect Gang-rape

Local police found bones, a silver anklet and shoes in the still-burning remains. Police suspect that the girl was gang-raped before she was killed. Police have taken three local men, who were caught at the spot, to the custody and are being questioned.

Soon after the incident was reported, hundreds of villagers gathered at the spot and staged demonstration, demanding justice for the victim and quick arrest of the accused. The villagers alleged that the police responded belatedly to their complaint about the girl going missing yesterday and asked for her ID and a birth certificate.

BJP Slams Congress For Crimes in State

Politics in the state escalated soon after the incident was reported and BJP leaders, including a former minister, arrived at the spot and joined in the protests.

The BJP slammed the ruling party in the state and questioned the effectiveness of their administration in ensuring public safety. The BJP also expressed deep concerns over the prevailing law and order situation that allowed such a heinous crime to occur.

Taking to Twitter, BJP youth leader Vikram Goud said, “Tragic! In Rajsthan a minor girl was brutally raped & thrown in a coal furnace. Locals recovered her burnt body. Women’s safety in Rajsthan under Congress rule has become a joke.”

Notably, the BJP has been targeting the state’s ruling Congress and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot over recent crimes against women in the state.

Increasing Crimes in Rajasthan

It should be noted that a girl was shot, splashed with acid and thrown into a well in Kaurali on July 14 this year and her family alleged that the police didn’t react to their complaint.

In a similar manner, three days later, a girl was allegedly gang-raped on the university campus in Jodhpur. On July 19, four members of a family, including a baby, were killed and their bodies were set on fire in Jodhpur.

According to reports, the incident took place in Jaipur’s Kalyan Nagar on July 20 when a mob of around 150-200 men and woman from the victim’s community stormed her house, dragged her out by the hair and thrashed her in the middle of the street.

A horrifying video of the incident which has gone viral on social media platforms shows the attackers raining down blows on the helpless woman and even throw her in the mud. Luckily, police intervened in in time and saved the woman from being lynched by the rabid mob.

https://twitter.com/shilpirajput0/status/1686254689065848832

A female police officer can be seen coming to the victim’s rescue and halts the brutal assault which would led to the victim’s death if the cops had not intervened in time. Later in the clip, the female officer is seen escorting the woman to safety.

As per an India Today report, locals found BJP references, mural of a lotus flower and a board with derogatory words on the woman’s house inviting the anger of other members of her community in the area.

Irate locals, mostly men, stormed the house and dragged the woman—who is reportedly mentally challenged—out on the street and assaulted. The mob dragged the mentally handicapped woman by hair and and paraded through a crowded market while the nasty assault continued, the report said.

As per local media reports, upon hearing the mob approaching, the woman hid inside a room in her house, however, the attackers broke the door down and dragged her out while repeatedly slapping and kicking her.

The sadistic beating continued even as cops from Malpura police station arrived at the spot, however, a courageous female constable, Dholi Bai, jumped in the middle of the assault and managed to rescue the victim. Constable Dholi Bai, with assistance from her colleagues, escorted the victim to the police station where she was administered first aid and later shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Truck With Tomatoes Worth Rs 21 Lakh Goes Missing, Police Suspect Driver, Cleaner https://www.india.com/rajasthan/truck-with-tomatoes-worth-rs-21-lakh-goes-missing-tomatoes-stolen-driver-vegetable-price-hike-6198212/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 09:20:37 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6198212 New Delhi: When people are seeing red over soaring tomato prices, a headline has captured everybody’s attention: a truck transporting tomatoes from Karnataka’s Kolar to Rajasthan’s Jaipur has gone missing without a trace so far.

The tomatoes loaded on the truck are worth around Rs 21 lakh. The truck, owned by Mehat Transport of Kolar, departed on July 27 but has yet to reach its destination.

Following the incident, the mandi owner in Kolar has registered a complaint in connection with the disappearance of the truck. The owner has not been able to contact the driver since the truck went missing, the police said.

Police suspected the driver and the cleaner of stealing both the vehicle and the tomatoes. Currently, the investigation is underway.

In another incident resembling this case, a group of unidentified individuals reportedly stole tomatoes worth Rs 1.5 lakh from a farm in Karnataka’s Hassan district in July. The aggrieved farmer lodged a complaint with the police, narrating that upon arriving at his farm, he was shocked to discover that his entire produce had vanished.

The farmer stated that the thieves had apparently entered the farm premises carrying approximately 50-60 bags, which they swiftly filled with tomatoes amounting to the value of 1.5 lakhs before making a hasty escape.

Meanwhile, Tomato prices continue to rise in Tamil Nadu as the wholesale price of the red fruit touched Rs 200 per kilogram in the state capital. While the wholesale market was selling tomatoes at Rs 200 per kilogram, in certain retail shops, tomatoes were sold at Rs 185 per kilogram. Traders also said that the price is likely to rise to Rs 250 per kg in a week’s time.

Other Cities See Tomato Price Hike

Delhi-NCR saw a major hike in tomato prices, which used to cost Rs 20-30 per kg, shot up to Rs 110-160 per kg. In response to the skyrocketing price of tomatoes, fast-food restaurant franchise Subway has taken tomatoes off its menu. To address the challenges posed by the escalating prices and disruptions in the tomato supply chain due to quality concerns, Subway outlets have taken the decision to temporarily suspend the use of tomatoes in their sandwiches and salads.

A notable example of this initiative was observed at a Subway store located in a Delhi airport terminal. The store prominently displayed a sign, politely informing the customers about the “Temporary Unavailability of TOMATOES”.

The sign further clarified that the current unavailability stems from the difficulty in sourcing sufficient tomatoes that adhere to their stringent quality control standards.

CRPF constable sets wife on fire

Meanwhile, in a related incident, a CRPF constable set his wife on fire in Haryana’s Gurugram. The woman was later hospitalised at Delhi AIIMS where she succumbed to her injuries on Monday (July 24).

According to the police, Sita, a resident of Hanumangarh in district Bhiwani, died on Sunday night at the hospital, while her husband, Dharmveer, a CRPF constable, who was also badly burnt in the incident is still under treatment.

An FIR with charges of murder has been registered against the constable at Sector 65 police station, police said, according to news agency PTI.

Giving details, police said Sita stayed with her husband and a 7-year-old daughter in a government quarter at CRPF camp, Kadarpur.

Many times many of you would have come up with some excuse or the other.

There is one such instance where a government employee, on being questioned about his absence replied in a rather unexpected and audacious manner. This happened in Rajasthan when commercial assistant Ajit Singh at Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited was served a notice by his boss asking about his absence on July 14, the day when the Chief Engineer of the Kota zone, GS Bairwa conducted a surprise inspection at the Accounts office of the electricity department.

During the inspection, it was found that not only was Ajit Singh not present at his seat in the audit branch but his signature was also missing from the attendance register.

As a result, Bairwa issued a notice to Ajit, demanding an explanation for his absence to which Ajit replied “You never come on time, so neither do I.” The photograph of the notice, along with Singh’s audacious reply, is going viral on social media.

HERE IS THE REPLY

Ajit Singh serves in the Electricity Department through the Ex-servicemen Quota and has been stationed in Kota for the past four years.

17-Yr-Old Dalit Girl Raped By 3 College Students In Rajasthan’s Jodhpur; Boyfriend Thrashed, Forced To Watch https://www.india.com/rajasthan/17-yr-old-dalit-girl-raped-by-3-college-students-in-rajasthans-jodhpur-boyfriend-thrashed-forced-to-watch-6170984/ Sun, 16 Jul 2023 18:27:18 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6170984 Jaipur/Jodhpur: A 17-year-old Dalit girl who had eloped with her boyfriend was allegedly gang-raped by three college students in front of him in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

The three accused, who thrashed the victim’s boyfriend before taking turns to rape her, were arrested hours after the incident, they said.

A senior police official said the accused were canvassing for a student leader seeking a ticket from the RSS’ student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for student union elections.

The ABVP, however, said it has no links with the accused.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot spoke to Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra about the incident in Jodhpur, his home town, and instructed him to ensure strict punishment to the accused, according to officials.

Gehlot said the promptness with which police arrested the accused is commendable. He added that his government would ensure justice for the victim by securing the harshest punishment for the culprits.

The girl eloped with her boyfriend from Ajmer on Saturday. They took a bus and reached Jodhpur around 10:30 pm. Later, they went to a guest house to get a room but left after the caretaker, Suresh Jat, misbehaved with the girl, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Amrita Duhan.

The two then went to Paota Chauraha, where the three accused — Samandar Singh Bhati, Dharmpal Singh and Bhattam Singh (aged 20-22) — approached them, she said.

The accused befriended the girl and her boyfriend, and offered them food and cold drinks, the DCP said.

When the girl and her boyfriend told the accused about themselves, the three assured them of help. Around 4 am, the accused took them to the hockey ground at the old campus of Jai Narayan Vyas University (JNVU) on the pretext of taking them to the railway station, Duhan said.

After reaching the ground, they thrashed the boy and held him hostage, while taking turns to rape the girl, she said.

As morning walkers started reaching the campus, the accused fled the spot. The girl’s boyfriend sought help from the morning walkers, who informed the police, she added.

Police swung into action and launched a hunt for the accused. A dog squad and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team were also at the spot.

Hours after the incident, the accused were traced to a house in Ganeshpura near Ratanada in Jodhpur. They tried to flee but were injured after they fell. While two of them fractured their legs while trying to flee, the third sustained an injury in the hand, Duhan said.

“We arrested all of them after treatment,” she added.

Samandar Singh is a first-year student at JNVU, Dharm Pal Singh is a post-graduation student at JNVU and Bhattam Singh is pursuing B.Ed from Ajmer, the officer said.

Police said they have also arrested the guest house caretaker for allegedly misbehaving with the girl.

Hours before the incident, Rajasthan Chief Secretary Usha Sharma and Director General of Police Umesh Mishra held a meeting to review the law and order situation in the state.

An FIR mentioning both the incidents (misbehaviour at the guest house and gang rape at the hockey ground) has been registered with the local police station under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, IPC and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

ABVP national secretary Hushiyar Meena said the accused have no links with the student group. “The ABVP demands the strictest punishment for the accused. The law-and-order situation of Rajasthan is deteriorating day by day and the safety of university campuses is being neglected by the Congress government,” he claimed.

Chief Minister Gehlot said there were reports of the involvement of people associated with the BJP and their organisations in rape incidents in Jodhpur and in Datia of Madhya Pradesh.

“Due to such incidents, the character and face of the BJP have been exposed,” he said.

Gehlot said BJP president JP Nadda maintained silence and did not even condemn these incidents which showed the seriousness of the party on women’s safety.

“No matter how influential the accused is, the state government will secure the harshest punishment to the culprits to get justice for the innocent daughter,” he tweeted.

In Jaipur, Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) president Abhishek Choudhary said the student group will give a representation to the governor against the ABVP on Monday.

“This incident is a blot on humanity. The strictest action should be taken against the accused. We will hand over a representation to the governor against the polluted ideology of ABVP,” he said.

Congress leader and Social Welfare Board chairperson Archana Sharma said in Jaipur that the police promptly arrested the accused, which shows the state government’s commitment to women’s safety.

23-Yr-Old Dies After Oxygen Mask Catches Fire In Rajasthan Hospital, Probe Ordered https://www.india.com/rajasthan/23-yr-old-dies-after-oxygen-mask-catches-fire-in-rajasthan-hospital-probe-ordered-6166578/ Fri, 14 Jul 2023 10:27:38 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6166578 Kota, Rajasthan: A 23-year-old man died during treatment at a government-run hospital in Rajasthan’s Kota after his oxygen mask allegedly caught fire resulting in grievous burns to the victim. The family of the deceased, Vaibhav Sharma, have accused the hospital staff of medical negligence while the authorities have formed a panel of senior doctors and forensic team to probe the allegations.

Family members of the deceased claimed Vaibhav Sharma, a resident of Anantpura Talab, died on Wednesday night when an oxygen mask over his face allegedly caught fire after Direct Current (DC) Cardioversion shock treatment and stuck to his neck in ICU, news agency PTI reported. The incident occurred at around 10 pm on Wednesday night.

However, the authorities at New Medical College Hospital, Kota refuted the family’s allegations of negligence even as they confirmed that the oxygen mask caught fire. They said the deceased was a TB patient with GI perforation in critical condition.

He was given CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) an hour earlier before DC shock was administered to revive him, they said.

The family said Vaibhav’s condition started deteriorating around 3 pm, and was admitted to the ICU. He was given oxygen support around 10 pm but when his condition did not improve, he was given DC cardioversion shock.

The victim’s brother Gourav Sharma claimed Vaibhav’s condition was fine after the electric shock treatment and that the medical staff had retired to their room when the oxygen mask suddenly caught fire. Gourav alleged that the medical staff fled and that he had to douse the fire due to which he sustained burn injuries. Meanwhile, Vaibhav sustained burn injuries all over his face and neck as the mask stuck to his face, Gourav said.

NMCH superintendent Dr RP Meena, however, said the patient had already succumbed to death and DC shock was administered after an hour of CPR to revive him.

The deceased patient was already suffering from TB with infection in both the lungs and was admitted in critical condition, he said.

Terming fire in oxygen mask after DC shock to be a “rarest of rare” occurrence, the hospital superintendent said the reason behind fire was yet to be ascertained.

Principal of the medical college Dr Sangeeta Saxena said a 4-member committee comprising senior professors of surgery and forensic was formed to probe the incident. Biomedical engineers were also called to look into the incident, she said, adding that a report would be submitted within 24 hours.

Saxena, however, claimed the patient had already died due to his prolonged illness.

Police have lodged a case under section 174 of CrPC to investigate the actual reason of death, DSP Harshraj said.

The kin of the deceased along with some Congress and BJP leaders staged a dharna demanding compensation to the family.

Another Student Dies By Suicide In Coaching Hub Kota, 15th Case This Year https://www.india.com/rajasthan/another-student-dies-by-suicide-in-coaching-hub-kota-15th-case-this-year-6156153/ Sat, 08 Jul 2023 15:38:49 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=6156153 Kota, Rajasthan: A 17-year-old JEE aspirant allegedly hanged himself in his hostel room here, the fifteenth case of suspected suicide this year by students taking classes at this coaching hub, police said on Saturday.

Bhadur Singh’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room in the Mahaveer Nagar area here on Saturday morning, they added.

A resident of Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh, Singh came here over two months ago. He was a student of Class 11 preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) at a coaching institute here.

The boy allegedly hanged himself to death in his hostel room on Friday night, Mahaveer Nagar Circle Inspector Paramjeet Patel said.

On Saturday morning, one of Singh’s friends spotted his body hanging from the ceiling fan and informed the caretaker. On being informed, the police reached the hostel and recovered the body after breaking into the room which was locked from the inside, Patel said.

Singh was reportedly absent from his coaching classes for the last 3-4 days, he added.

Police are trying to gather more details about him and obtain his performance sheet from the coaching institute to assess his scoring status and regularity in the class, Patel said.

The reason behind the alleged suicide is yet to be ascertained, the CI said, adding that no suicide note was recovered from his room.

The body has been kept in a mortuary and a post-mortem will be conducted once his family members arrive, he added.

The latest incident is suspected the fifteenth suicide case by a coaching student in Kota this year so far.

Last year, at least 15 coaching students died by suicide. More than 2.25 lakh students are estimated to be taking classes in various coaching centres in the city this academic session to crack entrance exams of medical and engineering colleges.

The repeated suicides by students in the coaching hub despite multiple measures by government and non-government agencies have started ringing an alarm bell for all the stakeholders and parents.

Stressful preparation for the entrance examination, high expectations from parents and unwanted distractions have been reported as the common reasons behind suicides by coaching students here, said Kunhari Circle Officer DSP Shankar Lal, who is also part of the students’ help desk.
